Come follow me- self reliance

Self-reliance is so much more than having enough food storage, it's having the abilities to find solutions to our problems and sometimes having the skills to endure the.  It's a process, a lot like the process of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly.

Adversity

Adversity is difficult to traverse, but if you look at nature adversity makes things better as a result of enduring the adversity.

Take the butterfly,  without adversity the catepillar would stay a creapy, crawly bug.  But through the process of its transition, we have the beautiful, but short lived butterfly.

How about coal.  without adversity, coal would stay black, crumbly and ugly, but with adversity we can have diamonds for our wedding rings.

We need adversity to obtain eternal life.  Without adversity we can not grow, and develop and become stronger spiritual beings.

This handout may help you.  I decided to merge a couple of the questions, about the premortal existance and why do my choices matter.  We know which choice we made in the Pre Mortal existence, the challenge is to continue to make choices that will help us stay on the path we desired when we made that choice.  Clearly, we each wanted to return to live with our Heavenly Father, and our family members who have gone before us.

Come Follow Me February

The Plan of Happiness is an essential understanding that will help our Young Women understand their place in God's plan for them.  Many people in this world are searching to know where they came from, and where they are going once they die.  We are so fortunate to have this knowledge.  I came across this digiscrap kit a couple years ago, unfortunately I don't remember who made it, but I am indebted to them for their hard work.  We plan to pass these out at the beginning of the month as a reference throughout the next month.

2013 Theme with Ogden Temple Rendition

I live in  South Ogden, Utah and our  temple distric is the Ogden Temple, which is currently under construction and has been closed since April 1, 2011.   I figured it would be ideal to use the rendition picture from the church website to use as that back drop for the 2013 Youth Theme.  The temple is not schedule to be finished until next year, but what a beautiful reminder of where we need to be.

Come, Follow Me YW January Godhead

The last topic Who am I, and who can I become was a lesson our Bishop talked to the girls on our first week this year.  What an amazing discussion.  We wanted our girls to know that they are so much more than what they see in the mirror and we want them to focus on more than the slight imperfections these beautiful girls see in the mirror, they are amazing daughters of God.  The more they look beyond the imperfections in the mirror, they will see themselves the way God sees them.

I have decided to upload the handouts that I am using for my class.  You may feel inspired to focus on other topics for your class.  This week we are going to focus on Prayer under the How can I know my Heavenly Father subtopic.

A few months ago a friend of mine wanted to focus her YW lesson on helping the Young Women in her ward understand the importance of their existence, and their Divine Nature, part of her lesson included a song from 2010 EFY written and performed by Nicole Sheahan, I am his daughter.  I have found myself singing this song in my mind especially when I am stressed.  There is a YouTube video showing photos of women and girls from around the world.  Each of them are beautiful and you can see their happiness in their eyes.

I too have a class full of beautiful young women who need to understand their true beauty.  Perhaps this handout can help your girls remember their importance as well.

The photos are taken from the church website and from google images of women around the world.  The elements of this handout are taken from a very special kit benefiting Mye De Leon's newborn son.  This kit is available at several digiscrapping sites until January 31st.
